The Behavioral Health Sciences Institute (BHSI) is a joint venture between Southern Maine Community College and The Spurwink Institute. BHSI educates and trains direct care providers and employers who work with individuals who have behavioral health needs. The Institute’s goal is to improve the skills of the behavioral health and criminal justice workforce, the effectiveness of the services they deliver and the quality of care for those they serve. During the past seven years, BHSI has either trained or certified more than 4,000 direct care providers in Maine’s behavioral health, mental health, criminal justice and human services workforce.
