Beginning in September 2003, The Spurwink
Institute launched its newest venture, The Institute for Justice
Initiatives, in partnership with Southern Maine Community College.
The Institute for Justice Initiatives’ mission is to
expand the breadth and depth of the education and training
provided for justice-related agencies in Maine by improving
the education, policy, training and advocacy of those organizations
as well as the quality of services they deliver. The Institute
for Justice Initiatives houses both the Center for Juvenile
Justice and the Center for Effective Correctional Practices.
The Institute for Justice Initiatives provides customized training
required to work in Maine’s juvenile or adult criminal
justice systems as well as research, program development, and
quality assurance related to public safety and current justice
issues.
