Assistive Technology

ALLTech™ is a comprehensive resource for information, consultation, assessments, technical assistance, training, and professional development about assistive technology, augmentative communication, technology for individuals who are blind or have low vision, assistive and educational software, visually pleasing accessible Web design, and universal design in education.

An assistive technology device is any item, piece of equipment, or product system that helps make life easier for a person who has a disability, chronic illness, or who is elderly. Assistive technology devices may range in complexity from a strip of velcro purchased over the counter in a department store to a customized voice-activated computer.

ALLTech™ supports school teams with consideration of assistive technology needs of children, youth, and adults by providing consultation, assessments, strategies, techniques, and training about technology, curriculum adaptation, and universal design.

ALLTech™ supports consumers and employers with home and workplace technology assessments, positioning, and individual and group training on a wide range of technologies.

Assistive Technology Assessments

Our expert assistive technology assessment team conducts thorough assistive technology assessments for children, youth, and adults. We provide support and recommendations for determining how low and high tech assistive technology can benefit users. ALLTech™ assessment team members are credentialed as Assistive Technology Practitioners (ATP) by the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America. Our assistive technology team:

  1. Reviews documents and gather related information.
  2. Interviews the individual, family members and key caregivers, educators, and related service providers.
  3. Meets with individual and the individual’s team of service providers to review and summarize information that has been gathered, identify concerns, and review desired outcomes.
  4. Conducts observations.
  5. Conducts device, software, and strategy trials if appropriate.
  6. Develops an in-depth written report and recommendations (for designated individual, special education department at the school, etc.).

Additional components (if appropriate):

  1. Conduct implementation visit and training.
  2. Make follow-up phone call after 1 month
  3. Provide periodic updates.
