Customized Education and Training

The Center for Training and Continuing Education (TACE) utilizes the many years of experience The Spurwink School has in providing services for individuals with special needs by developing and delivering training to public school administrators, teachers and educational technicians and mental health agency personnel. Training covers many pertinent topics and is customized to meet the needs of specific audiences. In its first three years, TACE has provided training in over 100 schools, addressing the needs of over 1600 participants. All participants receive certificates specifying the training they have received and the number of hours they attended. Additionally, when requested, CEUs are granted through our affiliation with the University of Southern Maine.

There are many benefits to attending TACE trainings.

  • Educational and mental health staff members receive contact hours or CEUs applicable to certification, authorization or licensure requirements.
  • Techniques, materials and skills taught have been developed by Spurwink staff and public school leaders and validated through use in school programs.
  • Trainers are thoroughly versed in the training materials and the philosophy of The Spurwink School, best practices in public schools and are knowledgeable about effective presentation techniques for adult learners.
  • Public schools and mental health agencies are required by federal law and state regulations to provide certain types of training (e.g., positive behavioral supports). TACE can help to meet these requirements.
